Back to Full Blog

I'm back. While I was gone I learned that airbags make it snow in your car, bone doctors are the devil, and you know that your kids really love you when they snap your bra for you because you're broken and can't do it yourself.

Two weeks ago a tipsy woman in a giant van ran into me and then threw my car into a light pole. I've never seen a Grand Marquis without a front end... it's a sight. I've been a little bit ooshey since then and haven't spent much time near the computer.

The accident happened right after Biggie, Marc and Chanda were too-close-for-comfort- to the Atlanta storms. I remember thinking after reading about it, "Yeah.. it's a mess out there, but God's still in charge of it." He really is. We'd just dropped Alayna and Jennifer off before the crash, and Carrie didn't move up to the front seat when Jen got out of the car. She and I were heading home when we were hit. The van hit so hard and was moving so fast that the impact (the first one, that is) unbolted the passenger side of the front seat and threw it toward the windshield. When we went to the tow yard a couple of days later to get things out of it, nobody could sit there because it was so scrunched. Talk about grace... when I think that one of my girls could have been in that seat it makes me cry.

Carrie and I are banged and bruised from seat belts and airbags, and I have a fracture in my leg and my elbow... the car is totaled, but we're feeling pretty lucky.

And meanwhile, I get to drive a brand new Charger until the tipsy lady's insurance settles. So yay!

Missed you all.. I'll be checking out your blogs soon.

And now for something completely different.
(Seems like a good day for some Monty Phython)

“Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!”

“-She turned me into a newt!

“It's funny, isn't it? How your best friend can just blow up like that?”

“There's nothing an agnostic can't do if he doesn't know whether he believes in anything or not”

“First you must find... another shrubbery! (dramatic chord) Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here, beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two layer effect with a little path running down the middle. ("A path! A path!") Then, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forrest... with... a herring!”

“I think that all good, right thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am”

“Dinsdale, He was a nice boy...... He nailed my head to a coffee table.”

“This morning, shortly after 11 o’clock, comedy struck this little house in Dibbley road. Sudden, violent comedy.”

So glad you are safe and not harmed much. It could have been so much worse. Wrecks are horrid to go through. I was hit head on several years back and it totalled my Jeep. Hit so hard it buckled my roof and the whole dash came apart. I was bruised deep purple all over my chest and stomach for months and my knee... well.. it has been replaced since then.

Glad you are safe and the kids were unharmed as well.

Bear Hugs!

I've been worried about you until I finally heard from ya. So glad you both weren't hurt any more than you were. You know that God was definitely looking out for ALL of you - especially with her not moving up to the front seat...after the other 2 were dropped off. That's a scary thought!

FYI: When dealing with the other insurance company, do NOT sign anything until you are totally satisfied with the price you get for your car. Do NOT sign off on the medical part period....just in case something comes up in the future that relates to this accident. You don't want them to come back & say that they're aren't liable any more cuz you signed a release so they're no longer responsible for any more bills....

Wow! That is something you will never forget. Scary indeed! We all are pleased with the way it turned out though.

Hi Kristin,
Can you post a picture of your cast so we can all sign it?? What a horrible experience. I'm glad that you two are OK, although your nerves are probably still a little raw. My advice to you: Take 2 lawyers and call them in the morning. Seriously. The "pain and suffering" is worth something. Insurance companies will try to "low-ball" you with an offer. A lawyer can get you what is truly fair. I'm glad that you had a bigger car and not some sub-compact no bigger than a can of tuna. You have family nearby also, so that is good for the healing. Go slow, and if you itch under the cast, don't use a coat hanger. Come back soon.

Sorry to hear of your accident, Kristin, and am glad it was not even more serious. But I guess this means no spring skiing for you this year...oh well, the snow will fly next fall soon enough. I bet those fractured parts will heal fast and true, in the meantime, what a hassle for you.

If I lived closer, I bring over some chicken soup which has been found by many Bone-sawers who say they have Masters degrees to decrease recovery time by a factor of 007. Especially in months with an R in them!

Now off to the Lake to visit the sword ladies.

Cheers! Photobucket

Thank you, PolarB. You had your knee replaced?? Did they give you a super-robot knee that can play Neil Diamond, forecast the weather and tell you when to turn off the pot roast?? If I ever get a new knee, I want one of those!

Thank you, Secret. We were lucky, for sure. We agreed on a price for the car, but the medical is going to be an ongoing thing for a while... so they haven't even asked me to sign anything. They're dealing with my lawyer now, though, anyway. It tickles me.. insurance companies and lawyers.. the sneakiest people in the world fighting it out!

It's a "WONDER" you are o.k!!!????!!!!

I'll "squeeze me" YOU with a cyber hug...but not too tight!

Soooo happy to hear you are ok!!!!

Dayum!!!

(as the young folk say!)

Back in '03 I broke my wrist...for 6 weeks I couldn't pull my very long hair back in a pony tail...had to have all kinds of people do it for me!!!....it was weird the way we take for granted the "little" things...have you found that to be true...is there anything you can't do presently that you could do before that you took advantage of!?

Don't feel sorry for me...I broke my wrist in a drunken state, dancing on a darkened dance floor that was 2 feet off the ground...I cha-cha-cha'd and ran out of dance floor! OUCH!

Again, glad you are ok!!!

Oh yes dear I did last October. The old knee was completely shot. Unusaul for only being 43 but I didn't have a leg to stand on so to speak so they gave me a completely new all steel and cement bionic knee. It doesn't play Neil Diamond but it can walk bend and bike and hike now which is exactly what I need it to do.

I am soooo glad I got it done because it is 110% better than the old one.

Bear Hugs!

Kristin, hope you are doing well in your recovery; gosh what a nasty hit. I would count my blessings too. However, sometimes you have to sue these insurance companies to get them to pay. Good luck with that, hope you get the compensation you deserve.

Haha.. oh yeah, Rubble! It's hard to put my hair back, snap my bra, close the car door, put deoderant on the right side of me... haha... things you'd never think of. Feeling much better now, though.

The other lady wasn't all the way sober, Secret... so the insurance company is kind of freaked, I think. I'm actually healing very quickly, though, so that should make them happy.

Thanks, Bella. I'm feeling so much better now! I've got a replacement car... now I just need to order another "Talk Nerdy to Me" bumper sticker, and I'll be all set!

Oh yeh, the bras...I forgot about the bra!!! And I drove a stick shift, but thankfully, I broke my left so I'd steady the wheel as best I could and quickly shift.

Glad you are better.
